'Autocar', the world's oldest car magazine, has crowned the Jaguar E-Type its best ever road test.
This comes as the E-Type celebrates its 50th birthday. The original model was unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show in 1961.

'Autocar' also has cause for celebration, as it marks its 5,000th road test this week.
To mark the model's birthday, and the award, Jaguar has commissioned a collectors edition coffee table book called 'E-Type - 50 Years of a Design Icon'.

Jaguar's Design Director Ian Callum said of the E-Type: "It's a British icon and testament to Sir William Lyons and Malcolm Sayer. The influence of the E-type runs through the veins of Jaguar design."
British racing legends Sir Stirling Moss and Sir Jackie Stewart also offered their own views of the E-Type, as did former F1 driver and current commentator Martin Brundle.

Moss said that he was struck by the car's gorgeous looks when it debuted: "When the E-Type arrived, even knowing William Lyons and Bill Heynes, I was as stunned as everyone else. It was a very special car and is still just as stylish today."

Stewart commented: "Nothing let this car down, particularly when it first came out. It revolutionised motoring and everyone wanted one. Why have a Ferrari when you could have one of these?"

Brundle, an E-Type owner, said: "Very few cars of that era can still keep up with modern traffic but I can happily jump in it and cover 500-miles with no problem. It has always looked sensational and I think it has got better with age."
