It wouldn't feel like a proper motor show without an outlandish MINI concept, so here you have it. The Rocketman is tiny, yet it looks much like today's MINI, seats three and a half people and has some of the weirdest doors we've seen. Its unveiling saw it literally (almost) unboxed from a pair of giant polystyrene blocks.
What's all the fuss about?
There's no question of MINI making the Rocketman in its current form, but we wouldn't put a production version (with normal doors) past the company. It's only a few centimetres longer than the original Mini, but has loads of headroom and enough space for three adults plus a child on the back bench. Lots of carbon (some of it exposed on the body) makes it really light and efficient too.
Any new technology?
The doors are double hinged so they open well away from the body, making for easier access, and the upper half of the see-through (Union Jack etched) boot is cut right into the roof; the lower half is a pull out drawer. It also sports a futuristic version of the current MINI's interior, although this is a car all about the body.
Estimated release date: Maybe never
Estimated cost: From around £15,000
