Mercedes-Benz has re-engineered its SLK convertible sports car from the ground up. The styling has been updated to match the rest of Merc's range, so it echoes the SLS and CLS models. A trick folding hard-top, along with improved performance, economy and efficiency, make this SLK the most polished yet.
What's all the fuss about?
Mercedes is boasting about its new 'Magic Sky Control' folding hard-top, which allows occupants to change the interior ambience from light to dark just by pressing a button.
The 3.5-litre 306bhp V6 engine is all-new too and offers an impressive blend of performance and economy - it will get the SLK to 62mph in 5.6 seconds and yet returns 39.7mpg. For those who want an even more frugal roadster, the SLK 200, with its four-cylinder 184bhp engine, returns 46.3mpg when specified with Mercedes' seven-speed 7G Tronic automatic transmission.
Anything that stands out?
Aside from what we've already mentioned, the new SLK benefits from smarter cabin materials, while the standard suspension can be upgraded as part of Mercedes' Dynamic Handling Package, which also includes Direct Steer and Torque Vectoring Brakes. In short, those upgrades keep it even more firmly planted on the road.
