Geneva 2011: Mercedes-Benz C-Class Coupé
- Mercedes-Benz C-Class with two doors
- One version emits just 117g/km of CO2
- Direct BMW 3 Series Coupé rival
If ever there was an obviously absent model, it was a Mercedes-Benz C-Class Coupé. BMW's 3 Series Coupé has always sold in droves, and lately so has the Audi A5, but Mercedes never offered a direct rival. Well, now it does.
What's all the fuss about?
To be honest there isn't much to say about the C-Class Coupé that isn't obvious from looking at the pictures. The interior, engine and trim levels all match those of the saloon and estate versions, except this is the most stylish one. In real life it looks noticeably more compact than the E-Class Coupé - which you'd probably expect.
Any new technology?
Not surprisingly, no, though sitting in the car makes you realise that the coupé roofline has eaten into space quite a lot - or seems to have - and the rear seems especially tight. Mercedes is making most noise about the BlueEfficiency measures that make it particularly economical - the C 220 CDI has start-stop, which helps it achieve 64.2mpg and 117g/km. That's just £20 per year in VED.
Estimated release date: Summer 2011
