Geneva 2011: Kia Rio

Like its sister company, Hyundai, Kia is looking to move upmarket and shed its budget image. That's where the new Rio comes in - it's much more stylish than its predecessor, has more space and promises to be one of the cleanest cars in its class.
What's all the fuss about?
The outgoing Rio has sold 52,000 units in the UK alone, so the new version has a lot to live up to. The updated styling is seriously impressive and renders the Rio much more distinctive.
It's also a lot more practical than the previous version, with a 292-litre boot, which is a contender for the class best and can put some larger family hatchbacks to shame.
Anything that stands out?
The full engine line-up has yet to be confirmed, but Kia has said that the entry-level 1.1-litre engine with 69bhp will have emissions as low as 89g/km, which would make it free to tax in the UK. Whether or not this version will be sold on our shores remains to be seen.
