- Landmark new design for BMW
- Brimming with new technology
- Features a 3D head-up display
BMW has unveiled a concept car called the Vision ConnectedDrive. It's a two-seater convertible and the dramatic looks mark an all-new design direction for the German firm. It follows on from the BMW Vision EfficientDynamics concept car that was shown at the 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show and features similarly radical design and up-to-the-minute technology.

What's all the fuss about?
The BMW Vision ConnectedDrive is arguably the sleekest and most aggressive looking car of the whole Geneva Show. It features a shark-nosed grille, round headlamps and L-shaped rear lights, which are said to preview a new design direction for BMW - so we can expect to see future Beemers with similar exterior features.
The sliding doors are inspired by those of the limited edition BMW Z1 sports car from the Eighties and Nineties, while the long bonnet and interior positioned towards the back of the car are reminiscent of other BMW sports cars like the Z3 and the Z4.

Any new technology?
Plenty. The head up display is in 3D so that more information can be displayed to the driver and the system will prioritise the information that is most essential. For example, road speed would usually be the most visible piece of information on the display, but it would briefly be replaced by satnav directions when the driver needs them. Clever stuff.
Estimated release date: Not likely
Estimated cost: Priceless
